This afternoon I had the amazing opportunity to celebrate the life of a beautiful Faithgirl! We enjoyed a tea party, and then the girls helped me craft a plot about our birthday girl using some ingredients of great storytelling.
If you want to write a story that will keep your readers on the edge of their seats, make sure to include these four things:
- A Likeable Main Character
because your reader won’t want to spend much time reading about someone they don’t like, right? - An Objective.
Your main character has to want something—really bad! What is it? What are they willing to do to get it? - A Conflict
This is where the story gets interesting. Something or someone is trying to keep your character from getting what she wants. How rude! - A WOW Ending
What’s going to happen to your character? Your reader can’t stop reading until they find out. And when they find out, they fling themselves back on their pillow and say, “WOW, that was awesome! I think I’ll read that book again!”
If you were going to write a story about a girl celebrating her birthday, what would you write? I’d love to hear your ideas!
